Hon. Ceekay Igara

Abia state chairman of Labour Party has replied the Abia State Government on the proposed use of Ngwa High School Aba for a campaign rally to host her Presidential aspirant Peter Obi; which they said would disrupt academic activities of students in the school.

Speaking during a flagship program on Rapid 96.5 FM- Stand Point, Igara who is also chairman of the Inter Party advisory Committee insisted that the party had followed due process in her application for the use of Ngwa High school and was given approval after the required processing funds were paid.

Recall that the Abia State Government had in a statement by the Commissioner for Post Education, Barr. I.C Mark urged the Labour Party to reconsider the use of the venue for her mega rally citing disruption of academic activities as reasons.

In a statement by the Alex Otti Campaign Cordinator, Hon. Iheanacho Obioma, the party further revealed that it got the needed approval from the owners of the school and informed the state government that contrary to its reports, the school is currently on midterm break which was a major consideration of the party before using the said date.

The statement titled; “PROPOSED LABOUR PARTY CAMPAIGN RALLY IN ABA: ABIA STATE GOVERNMENT SHOULD STOP DISGRACING ITSELF”, the party maintained that the rally will hold as planned on Thursday November 10, 2022.

The statement read in parts: “That the venue of the Proposed Rally does not belong to Abia state government, rather to a private religious institution, ABA-Ngwa North Diocese of Anglican Communion which had since given us the necessary approvals after payment was made and received”.

That the school is presently on mid-term break which is one of the things taken into consideration before the date was chosen. We do not expect Abia state government to be aware of this because they have no interest in the affairs of the school”.

That the owners and management of the facility who have better knowledge of the vicinity and who had exhibited moral obligation to protect the welfare and wellbeing of their students than Abia state government understood that our rally will pose no threat of any kind to the facilties and students whose classrooms are far away from the venue of the rally before giving their approval”.

The Labour Party while recalling that the PDP recently held similar rallies at Osusu Amaukwa and Umuakatawom primary schools respectively in Obingwa LGA while schools were in session, said the action of Abia State Government smacks of hypocrisy and double speak.
