Abia State Government has called on the people of the state to accord the Labour Party’s Presidential Candidate, Mr Peter Obi the honour, respect, and hospitality he deserves as he campaigns in Abia today.
The Government in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Hon. Eze Chikamnayo titled “RE – PROPOSED LABOUR PARTY CAMPAIGN RALLY IN ABA: ABIA STATE GOVERNMENT NOT AGAINST THE ASPIRATION OF PETER OBI OR ANY OTHER PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE” also called on security agencies to ensure that due protection is accorded the Labour Party’s Presidential Candidate.
The state further highlighted that despite being run by a religious body, Ngwa High School still runs the same academic calendar as the Abia State School System and is under the supervision of the state’s Ministry of Education, adding that the state is not interested in disrupting the campaigns of any political party.
It read in part “That the Abia State Government is not interested in disrupting the campaign of His Excellency, Mr Peter Obi or any Presidential Candidate of any political party for that matter. This is consistent with the age-long disposition and uncommon tolerant temperament of our quintessential, democratic and widely acclaimed peace-loving Leader, Governor Okezie Victor Ikpeazu.
“That the venue of the Proposed Rally, Ngwa High School, Aba is one of the Government Schools recently released to some Religious Institutions and other Groups on a probational basis as contained in the Executive Council Resolution authorising the exercise. Thus, the control, use, and or misuse of such privilege by any of the beneficiaries will determine Government decision as it affects such Institutions. Therefore, those ignorant political pretenders purporting that Ngwa High School is an independent, self-governing island within the Abia State territory are only hallucinating.
Their purported approval from their misguided moles will only lead them to oblivion as there can never exist two Governments within the elected authority in Abia State”.
The Labour is holding its mega rally today at Ngwa High School, Aba.
Recall that the Abia State Government in a release by the Commissioner for Post Basic Education, Barr. I.C Mark asked the party to move her rally to another venue citing disruption of academic activities as the reason. In response, the party had informed the state government that the school was on mid-term break and as such academic activities cannot be disrupted noting that all due processes for approval of the venue were followed.
