The Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu will today swear in the acting Chief Judge of Abia State, Justice Lillian Abai, as the substantive Chief Judge of the State. In a press release signed by the Chief Press Secretary, Onyebuchi Ememanka, the swearing-in will be performed at the Banquet Chamber of Government House, Umuahia. Enemanka further disclosed that the National Judiciary Council and the Abia State House of Assembly have duly confirmed her. It would be recalled that members of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, Abia State chapter have been on strike in the last three weeks over the non-confirmation of Justice Abai as Abia’s substantive Chief Judge, among other demands. The strike, which has crippled activities in the State judiciary, made the election petitions tribunal at the Umuahia High Court complex relocate to another venue.
