The Nigerian Army said it is working towards ensuring a peaceful environment for the conduct of the 2023 general elections.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya, who made the remark, said the army is aware of the prevailing situation within the country and making an effort to ensure a smooth election in 2023, especially by providing the enabling environment for a peaceful conduct of elections and aid to civil authorities. He spoke during the graduation ceremony of the Nigerian Army College of Logistics (NACOL) leadership course for officers within the rank of Captains. He said: “Training is key in every military organization. It is only through training that you have the skills and competence that you require to match with equipment and other enablers you have to achieve results. What you see us achieving now is from that combination.”General Yahaya tasked the officers to carry what they learned from the Nigerian Army College of Logistics (NACOL) further to their various units and ensure it reflects in their conduct and contributions to the force’s operations. He charged the officers to always be prepared before confronting any task, and always ensure they marshal out their points accurately before meeting with their commanders. Earlier, the Commandant of the school, Major General Adekunle Adeyinka, described the graduation of the officers from NACOL as a significant milestone in the annals of the College’s rich history, adding that for over 19 years, specifically between May 2003 and June 2022, the college solely offered logistics focused training to Nigerian Army officers, in line with its original training mandate. He said in line with NACOL’s new capacity development mandate to train junior and middle cadre Direct Regular Commission officers, the Junior Leadership and Staff Officers Course commenced in July this year, while preparations are in top gear for the Senior Leadership and Staff Officers Course scheduled for January 2023.
